MABAC is an informal cross-country league formed in the 1970s. The name derives from “MA” (from MAGIC – Matthew Arnold Gym Instruction Class) + “BAC” (ex British Aircraft Corporation). There are currently nine member clubs.

Races are held throughout the year in Surrey and SW London, and often there’s a pleasant pub to head afterwards. As courses can be muddy, you may prefer to wear trail shoes.  We encourage you to wear club kit.

The league is funded by two open events each year, the Cranleigh 15/21 Mile race, and the Surrey Slog Half Marathon. So if you’d like to support the league then please enter (or volunteer at) one of those.

How it works: Every runner earns a minimum of five points per race (eight for Windsor), with the first six male runners and first three female runners for each club earning extra points, dependent on finishing position. There is a separate or short course for walkers and joggers, who cover one lap and earn two points each. So all participants score points for the club and the race is suitable for all speeds.

Distance: Races are approx 5 miles (apart from Windsor which is 8 miles) or 2.5 miles for the short course.

Race Dates: See https://running.mabac.org.uk/the-league/ for details.
