Member-organised swims, rides and runs
Members organise their own informal sessions, which are not official club sessions under club oversight. We currently do not offer coached club cycling sessions.
Non-coached member-organised rides
Members sometimes organise their own informal rides. These are not club-organised sessions. The number of groups and speed/distance depends on how many turn up and how many leaders we have, but we aim to have at least one group, sometimes two.
Weekend informal rides
80-100 km ‘fast’ group meets at 08:30 on Saturdays at Starbucks Coffee opposite Wimbledon train station. If the pace is too fast you are expected to let the group know and find your own way home. Distances may be longer in the summer.
50-80 km ‘steady & medium’ groups meet at 08:30 on Sundays at Starbucks Coffee opposite Wimbledon train station. The steady & medium groups stay together for the whole ride.
Wednesdays 7 am: In the summer months we sometimes do a Wednesday early morning Windmilers mid-week ride. All levels are welcome. Meeting at Pen Ponds Car Park, Richmond Park. Ride for about 90 minutes. Can cut short earlier.
Gravel rides: from time to time there are also groups that do gravel rides.
Pace guide:
Fast 27-30 km/h on the flats
Medium 24-28 km/h on the flats
Steady is 20-24 km/h on the flats
Coached club rides (summer)
In the summer we sometimes offer coached club rides, starting with a coached section in the car park at the start (technique and instruction), followed by a ride in the park, led by the coach.
Check the calendar first to see if there are any coached rides. We welcome all bikes, whether you are looking to master your TT bike or you’re still wobbling around on a shopping bike, our combination of skills and fitness coaching will help boost your confidence and fitness on two wheels.
Insurance
For all cycling you should accept responsibility for your own conduct and safety (including the safety of your bicycle and other equipment). The club has public liability insurance cover but this does not insure you against personal accidents unless the club is liable. We recommend that you take out appropriate third party insurance for your own sake. Membership of British Cycling, Triathlon England or the CTC can offer you this form of cover and you are supporting cycling in this country too.
