Crystal Palace Half

Race Date: Sunday, 09/05/2021
Race Distance: Half Marathon

I found this a toughie. The course was four-laps, plus some twiddly loops, on undulating tarmac and trail paths. An interesting and imaginative use of the Park, but a bit confusing for the first lap or so. It certainly wasn’t boring and took in some of the iconic Crystal Palace Park features including the rusty-laptop concert bowl and the dinosaurs (these seemed rather apt on the last lap!). After 13.64 miles (extra half-mile loop having missed a left turn on lap one) I was pleased to get to the finish. Once I’d composed myself, a drive home with fresh-air blasting through the car and some loud music (as reported by David Shute) was the perfect antidote to feeling completely knackered at the finish!
