Nowa Huta w czterech smakach - wiosna

Race Date: Saturday, 25/07/2020
Race Distance: Other - Run

First race here in Krakow under the new running regulations. The race organiser benhind this series is a very small local running organisation rather than a big commercial organiser and so even in normal circumstances it is a very low key local event. Under current rules the 5k and 10k were limited to 150 participants, with the start times an hour apart and each start having a 'start window' to cross the line to avoid a crowded start so all times were chip times not gun times. Face coverings required in the start/finish zone and anywhere else on the course where distance couldn't be maintained (this could be say a buff over the mouth / nose - it didn't need to be a mask). No bag drop or spectators, etc. Now, for the race itself - it is a really nice series that takes you to some cross-country areas that are not well known. This one was round a series of wilderness lakes about 14 miles outside town and took place at sunset which made for an atmospheric run although you had to keep moving to avoid the mosquitos! The race was billed as a 5k but it being off-road that was more an approximate guide and my watch made it 3.5 miles. You had to bring a headtorch but it was clear skies and I made it round without needing mine. Nice little medal at the finish and your number entitled you to one free portion of chips at the Belgian Fries van as post race fuelling - we devoured these very quickly indeed!
