VAC XC Championships and Masters Open

Race Date: Saturday, 18/01/2020
Race Distance: Other

For the second year running a pleasant January day was welcome - unlike the freezing wind and rain of 2018 - as 54 runners dodged the huge puddle at the start near the Thatched Cottage and headed off for the 4.5 mile, two lap race. Most of the really wet and gloopy sections were flat or downhill, but the two slogs all the way up Robin Hill Road (aka Gravelly Hill) added a challenge for the mostly mature field. Lesley won gold in her age category and I won silver but, just to stop me getting ideas above my station, the M75 gold went to the fleet-of-foot Hercules runner Peter Giles, who finished some nine minutes and 19 places ahead of me! Also running was Bill O'Connor, who is one of the remaining 10 Ever Presents who have run every London Marathon since it started in 1981.
