Centennial parkrun

Race Date: Saturday, 23/11/2019
Race Distance: 5 Km

My 100th parkrun ... so I decided to go all the way to Sydney to complete it. In truth a lucky co-incidence. This parkrun started last October and is one of many in the Sydney area. My apartment was quite central, so I choose this one as I could walk to it. After a late night I set my alarm for less than two hours later for this early 7am start, so pleased with my time. I had an initial thought to also run the 8am St.Peters parkrun less than 5k away, but had already decided against even before the Race Director explained that Parkrun Australia delete the second run of the day. One lap course but with two switchbanks. One is an an out and back whilst the second is effectively the turning point to return to the start. A trail course with similarities underfoot to Wimbledon Common including tree roots, loose and hard compacted soil. Finding the best footing area was the main challenge. A lovely park and the section near the start is around a polo field. Nice if pricey restaurant in the park for breakfast; about £11 for a "posh" scrambled egg of toast. No smoke from the bush fires today which was good as we have smelt it in central Sydney this week. 279 runners in total today.
