Jubilee River Swim

Race Date: Sunday, 09/06/2019
Race Distance: Swim - 10 Km

A very well organised event (dreamt up in a pub in 2011!) from Boulters Lock nr Maidenhead to Pococks Lane in Eton. It's a man-made flood relief channel and free from craft. There are three weirs along the river's length that break up the swim nicely: 1.9k, 3.5k, 2.6k and 1.5k so this is where you exit the water, have some food and drink and a short walk along the towpath to the next stretch. They will even take your personal nutrition to these feed points if you wished. Over 400 participants set off in 4 waves depending on your estimated time so the bun-fight at the beginning wasn't too horrendous. Only Charles and I took part and would be great to see more Windmilers there next year. We were lucky with the weather (sunny intervals) and it really is very pretty, swimming under a wide variety of bridges and kites flying overhead at the start. Hats off to Charles for swimming it skins in water that was 16.7 degrees!!
