RunThrough Finsbury Park

Race Date: Sunday, 10/03/2019
Race Distance: 10 Km

I think everybody running in London experienced some of that wind today. Finsbury Park was no different. I knew it wasn't going to be easy when I was struggling to stay upright walking to the start; good core exercise mind. The start is high up and exposed, it was a massive challenge attaching my number between each gust of wind. Reminded me of a Sunday League match when I was at school. Our goalkeeper took a goalkick, caught a huge gust of wind about 25m out that blew it back just outside the goalpost for a corner. It's still a corner if it went in the goal if it ever comes up in a quiz! The finishing gantry had to be taken down before the start for safety reasons. We were advised that the chip timing was working and to do our best to get round the course! I took great delight climbing the steepest hill on the course to see the lead cyclist struggling to pass me. The wind kept changing direction and rather unkindly chose to blow directly at me on my fourth and final ascent of that steepest hill. A bit disappointed that a chap I had targetted to beat after he passed me with 2km to go still beat me. I overtook him with 600m to go and finished 25 seconds ahead of him. However, as he started 30 seconds after me, he beat me by 5 seconds on the chip timing.
