Roding Valley Half Marathon

Race Date: Sunday, 03/03/2019
Race Distance: Half Marathon

Arriving at the Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies’ clubhouse, it was more like Groundhog Day than TOWIE. At the last half I’d run – the Thames - most of the runners were huddled together under Walton Bridge before the start, trying to avoid the freezing wind and rain. It was exactly the same at the Roding Valley Half, as runners inched from the club house, into the groundsman’s shed, and finally the gazebo alongside the start before letting the weather do its worst. Once underway is wasn’t too bad and the rain was more miserable drizzle than drenching downpour, but the wind was well on the enthusiastic side of keen. The scenery was decidedly urban but it was a pleasant, well-organised and well-marshalled run with a track start and finish, an undulating course, and a welcome and welcoming clubhouse. The cup of tea at the finish was worth the entry-fee alone!
