London Cross Country Championships 2018 (Women)

Race Date: Saturday, 17/11/2018
Race Distance: Other - Run

Well, that was the most flustered race registration I have ever experienced. Bernadette and I turned up to registration only to be told that there were no Windmiler ladies entered. Fortunately Kate responded to our message quickly and forwarded the e-mail confirmation of our entry. The two volunteers on registration advised us to try to find the Referee to see if we allowed to race. We decided it was worth a shot, even if we were both expecting the answer to be "no". After asking quite a few marshalls in high-vis jackets we finally found the Referee (not wearing high-vis). Amazingly, despite it presumably being a very busy day for him, he quickly found us numbers and timing chips. So with five minutes to the start of the race we were changing shoes and pinning on race numbers. After dumping bags with some kind marshals we made it to the start line with a minute or so to spare, although not having had time to warm up. The race itself was the usual two lap course of Parliament Hill (which to me feels like it has more uphill than downhill) however it was very dry underfoot, unlike previous times I have raced there. Definitely a day where the kindness of strangers makes you feel glad to be part of the running community.
