Vilnius Marathon

Race Date: Sunday, 09/09/2018
Race Distance: Marathon

Of the large Windmiler contingent that travelled to Vilnius, only a select few had decided to run the marathon. The marathon course was two laps of the half marathon course, heading out along the riverbank before crossing a footbridge into a wooded park for 5km or so, then turning round to head back into the city centre, taking in both the newer parts of the city (nice smooth roads) and the older areas (cobbles!). A few small undulations but generally a fast, flat course. The route passed itself in a few places, which allowed for lots of waving at fellow Windmilers en route. There were plenty of water stations, manned by some very enthusiastic teenage marshals. The forecast had been for overcast skies, but unfortunately the sun soon burned through the clouds which made for a rather warm second lap. Thanks for the support from the half marathoners who had already finished, and the 10k runners who had yet to race.
