Exeter 10K

Race Date: Wednesday, 18/07/2018
Race Distance: 10 Km

I headed eastwards on a Wednesday evening, from the rural backwater of the Tamar Valley and wilderness of Dartmoor, to the bustling megalopolis that is Exeter. However,it was not the bright lights of the big city that drew me to our 'regional capital' but the lure of the simple pleasures of a flat race. As every run at home normally feels as hilly as the Wimbledon Seven Hills (but without the expensive real estate) I was longing for something less lumpy and for an attempt at my least successful distance; the dreaded 10K! I am not sure why I have never managed to get a 10K right - its the heady cocktail of speed and endurance that needs to be just right, otherwise the wheels do truly come off! A very well organised and pleasant two lap route round the Rive Exe country park was my reward and although I am not a convert it was good to improve upon a 5 year PB. Now let me check when I am next in London and see if they still do those races in Battersea Park....
