Triathlon

The Wimbledon Windmilers has a strong triathlon arm of over 100 triathletes ranging from nervous first timers to Kona qualifiers. We are primarily a community, traveling to races together, exchanging advice and supporting each other every step of the way. There is no minimum commitment, feel free to come along and try a couple of our sessions/rides before deciding whether the club is for you.

Swimming

Monday evening swim sessions are based in Wimbledon College Pool and lead by professional triathlon coach and swimming teacher Simon Olney. Over the years Simon has helped hundreds of people of people improve their swimming and volunteers two hours of his time every Monday evening to help club members train for Triathlon and open water events. Whether you are completely new to the world of competitive swimming or an experienced athlete looking for an extra edge, through a mixture of video analysis, swimming drills and fitness sets we can help you improve and take your performance to the next level.

Coached Swims are £7 each on a first come, first served basis, or 10 for £50 if you want to book your place for an entire block of 10 swims. Please get in toich to register your interest rather than just turning up, as places are not guaranteed.

The 7:15 session is generally for slower swimmers, and 8:15 for more advanced swimmers, but if you can only make one of the sessions, get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We do not have a minimum speed for swimmers, however we ask that you are able to swim 100M (four lengths in a standard pool) with minimal rest between lengths before coming along to your first session. If you feel you are not yet at this standard, get in touch and we'll advise you on the best way to get your swimming up to speed.

Along with our Monday evening sessions a group of Windmilers will normally congregate at Shepperton Open Water Swim on Saturday mornings during the open water season. These are uncoached sessions, but a good way for those who are nervous about open water swimming to swim in good company.

Cycling

The bread and butter of our cycling program is our weekend rides, leaving from Starbucks in Wimbledon most Saturdays and Sundays, we ride for anything between 20 and 100 miles depending on the pace and ability of the group. These are uncoached sessions but all rides will have a ride leader with a GPS of the route to follow. The faster riders tend to crack on with the route, but slower paced groups will wait at the top of the hills, ensure nobody gets left behind and normally involve a couple of stops for coffee and cake. Routes include the Surrey Hills, Windsor, Brighton and more in the Home Counties area.

These rides, and others in the evening/early morning or on bank holidays are organised on relevant WhatsApp groups, as well as the Wimbledon Windmilers Cycling group on Facebook. Keep up to date with rides by requesting to join the Facebook group using the E-mail at the bottom of the page.

Alongside our weekend rides, throughout the summer we run coached cycling sessions on Wednesday evenings, ranging from skills sessions and time trials to hill reps and brick sessions (a cycle followed by a run). These are daylight dependent so normally run from April through to September.

Events

Windmilers will often travel en masse to events to provide support, camaraderie and help share travel/accommodation costs. Popular events include the Thames Turbo Sprint Series, Ironman UK, Outlaw Half and the Cotswold 113. We also attend a large number of single sports events including the Brownsea Island swim, Dart 10K and many cycle sportives. If you are attending an event and would like some company, share it with the club and you'll usualyl find yourself with some club members in tow.

Club Kit

We can provide you with a wide variety of Windmilers branded cycling and triathlon clothing through Champion systems, with our cycling kit a common sight in the Surrey Hills. These are ordered in large batches through our suppler Champion Systems. Stay tuned for more informtation on the next order.
