Cycling

Wednesday evening cycling

The first of this years midweek cycling sessions starts at 7pm on 20 April 2011.  As with all future sessions, the group meets at the Pen Ponds car park in the centre of Richmond Park.

The first session is an introduction to bike training.  In this session we will aim to take cyclists through what they can expect in the forthcoming sessions along with some technical tips and drills that develop efficiency and proficiency.

In order to take part in the session, riders must have a serviceable and safe bike and a helmet.    Sunset is still relatively early so riders should bring lights for the trip home from the park.

Saturday Long Rides

We meet for informal (i.e. not coached or part of the official training sessions) bike rides on Saturday mornings, generally starting at 9am from Starbucks in Wimbledon (opposite HSBC).

The number of groups and speed/distance depends on how many turn up and how many leaders we have, but we aim to have at least 2 groups. Generally we head to the Surrey Hills and most rides lead to Box Hill and a coffee stop at the top. Expect 50-60 miles with an average pace of around 16-18 mph. As a rough estimate, If you can complete 3 laps of Richmond Park in 1 hour 15 minutes, you should have no problem with the pace.

Whilst we try to ride every week, if weather is particularly poor or we don't have ride leaders available we may cancel. To keep informed, and be added to the distribution list, email Nick Wood (tri@windmilers.org.uk).

We are have shorter, 30 mile rides when there is sufficient interest (there is more in the summer!). If you are interested, again email Nick.

Note: This is an entirely informal ride, and you should accept responsibility for your own conduct and safety (including the safety of your bicycle and other equipment). You take part entirely at your own risk. We strongly recommend that you take out appropriate third party insurance for your own sake. Membership of British Cycling or the CTC can offer you this form of cover and you're supporting cycling in this country too.
